AGES: 14 – 17 years old

On the Summer English Course in Oxford you will learn English by exploring a weekly theme in classes and workshops as well as through activities and trips, making this course different to many others!

20 hours of English teaching per week, including at least 4 hours of workshop time and 8 hours of ‘Study in Action’ learning or sport or other afternoon activity.
Themes vary from week to week, but will always be interesting, exciting and related to the UK.

Language level requirement: Intermediate to advanced CEF (B1+)

This year’s themes are:

Art & Design – Innovation and Change – Sport and Leisure – Business and Marketing – Music and Performing – Past and Present (History and Literature)

Because of the innovative way in which the courses are structured, you will find yourself practising new language skills straight away. So you’re not just learning through lessons; you’re learning by doing.

Many of the workshops are run by industry experts, leading professionals and academics, and the people who run the workshops could be a Shakespearean actress, a performance poet, an astronomer, a fashion designer and more!

Like the workshops and activities, your excursions will link with the weekly theme – so you’ll experience at first-hand some of the things you’ve learnt.

You’ll also have one full-day excursion each week, on which you’ll visit a place of interest in the UK.

The trips you take will depend on the weeks you choose to attend. Some examples of locations include:

BBC TV studios (London) – Design Museum (London) – Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre (London) – National Space Centre (Leicester) – BMW Factory (Oxford) – Natural History – Museum (Oxford)

Day-trip locations include:

Bath – Brighton – Bristol – London – Stratford upon Avon – Warwick
